Recent Projects
POTTERY
Recent work has included the preparation of assessment and archive reports on pottery from a number of large infrastructure projects, such as East Anglia ONE, Hornsea3, Sizewell C, work along the A47, and the Long Stratton bypass. However, most of my work continues to involve smaller quantities of sherds from evaluations and excavations across East Anglia, the east Midlands and beyond.
I have also been compiling a corpus of East Anglian pottery fabrics and forms which, with part of my PhD thesis, will be published in the East Anglian Archaeology monograph series in 2026.
HUMAN BONE
I continue to carry out work on small groups of human skeletal remains from across the region and beyond, but my main focus in this area now is helping the local forensic services with any bone finds from the area.
The map shows the locations of most of the sites I have produced HSR reports for in the past.

MPhil thesis: human skeletal remains
A Comparative Study of the Human Skeletal Material from Late First and Early Second Millennium Sites in the North-East of England
My thesis, submitted for the degree of MPhil at the University of Durham in 1989 (awarded 1991), is available here in pdf format (5.6MB download). It has been typeset in Times New Roman, rather than the original double-spaced Courier font required at the time of submission, and is therefore much shorter (in terms of page numbers) than the original document. Most of the diagrams and drawings have also been re-typeset and are hopefully clearer than the originals.
If you use any of the data in this document, please reference it in the usual way, but you will need to note that it is the online version, as page refs will be different.
